More on SPAM

April 15, 2008 on 10:31 pm | In Uncategorized |

I’ve installed a new plug-in called WP-SpamFree in an attempt to control the automated comment and trackback spam I’ve been getting. Seriously, I’ve been deleting literally dozens of spams a day, and it’s gotten a little bit aggravating. Akismet is/was catching it all for me just fine, but I still have to check and see if it’s caught a real comment by mistake, it has happened.

I’ve had it.

I’m not interested in cheap pharmaceuticals, airplane tickets, dating, porn (of every description - use your imagination) or warez, to name just a few.

WP-SpamFree requires the use of JavaScript (not Java) and cookies, so if you have those disabled you may run into problems.

Please contact me if you are having problems commenting at ‘therealgunguy (at) gmail (dot) com’.

UPDATE: I am also starting to ban IP’s of the spam that does make it through. So far this has resulted in 1 proxy server (notrack.org) being banned.
