Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacuum Sealer - First Impressions

Reynolds Handi-Vac

So I went down to Wally-World and picked up this little device today. I didn’t pick up any extra bags, but it comes with three quart sized bags in the package with the vacuum.

The Handi-Vac is a battery operated device and takes 6 AA batteries. Don’t worry about having to spend more money on batteries right away though, the batteries are included.

Use was as simple as could be. I merely opened the package and pulled the tab out to engage the batteries, stuffed one of the included bags with some leftovers, put the tip of the vacuum on the bags air valve and pushed the button. Within seconds all the air was sucked out, leaving an almost flat (except for where the food was) storage bag. It’s too early to tell for sure how well this vacuum packer will hold up over time, but my first impressions are definitely very good.

The price is a good deal at under $7, and a package of quart bags is under $3, both before tax.

I don’t see why this couldn’t be used to vacuum pack other items besides leftovers like bullets, trail mix, jerky, batteries, etc…anything you’d like to keep water and air tight.

I’ll keep you updated on my experience with this product.

I have no affiliation with this company.

  1. I have read on many occasions from either comments to blog postings (including survivalblog.com) that vacuum sealing ammo is a bad idea. They say it will unseat primers due to pressure differences.

  2. I had not heard that. I’ll take your word for it. Thanks for the information!

  3. Nice to know. I have a regular (plug-in) vacuum sealer, but I’m looking into another one that uses nothing but elbow grease.

Also useful for storing pipe tobacco!
